This was by far one of the hardest projects I have worked on. This was not because of some of the physical challenges of the design but also due to my emotions after having to say goodbye to Archie.

I knew that I wanted Archie’s memorial to have room for his collars, as well as finding a way to represent his bent ear and black face turning white. I also did not want to paint or stain any wood, instead preferring the natural wood grain to do all work. I went with Wenge, a naturally dark wood, Maple for the lighter accents, and a little bit of Ebony for the nose.

I decided to break down the urn into 3 parts: the base, the body, and the face. The 3 parts are held together using strong magnets which allow me to take things apart when needed, or the safely break away parts unexpectedly get hit or snagged. I finished this with semi-gloss spray lacquer.
