The next big project(s)!

I’ve apparently been bit by the building a guitar bug. All I’ve been thinking about since finishing my friends guitar has been building me a bass guitar. Ever since college I’d always wished to have bass and learn how to play, but knowing me if I did get one I would use it to make some noise trying to play it for a month or 2 before putting it aside forever. In a way I just brushed it off as one of those crazy wishes, like having a pony, or being an astronaut.
Since it turns out building guitars is fairly straightforward I saw little stopping me from building myself my “dream” bass, other than my total lack of knowledge. Thankfully I have a super talented musician cousin who’s played bass for years. Not only has he been answering my sometimes dumb questions but he saw my guitar build and wanted to know if I could build him his dream bass while I am at it. So that’s it! It’s been decided! I’ll be building 2 basses in the near future.
For my bass I decided to start off and buy a cheapo all inclusive DIY bass kit. I’ll be reusing a lot of the stuff but will be building my own body and maybe neck. My cousin has higher standards and wishes to use specific components, and wants 5 strings, so we are starting a list of all of his parts and other specific requests. While we do that and source the parts I will be building my bass first. While I still haven’t finalized what body style I want I did narrow down the wood pattern I will be using. I used a cutting board calculator just to make it easy to visualize, and plan on using Bocote instead of the bubinga.
